SMC Travelers Trek with Llamas

There’s a side of Oakland that’s rarely seen. It’s a world away from the city that typically makes headlines for its street violence and persistent poverty.

The Oakland that 24 St. Mary’s College students experienced, last week, was one of mossy green meadows, towering redwoods and woolly llamas.

The llamas were brought in by vans from Sonoma, as part of this unique adventure in nature with our Jan Term Travel Writing class. See the photos in the Oakland Tribune below, for a snapshot of how the class greeted the llamas.
